About the Lazy J5 Brand
The Lazy J5 brand was registered in Colorado by my grandparents on January 21, 1944, and was used on their registered Hereford herd.
I was blessed to receive the the Lazy J5 after the passing of my grandparents.  I am proud to keep it in use and it is an honor to have it.

Davis Farms is located on the banks of beautiful Chalk Creek. The beauty, peace and tranquility of Chalk Creek was the inspiration for the herd name for our Nigerian Dwarf Goats.
Welcome to Davis Farms, home of Lazy J5 Polled Dexters and Chalk Creek Nigerian Dwarf Goats, located in beautiful Nathrop, Colorado.  Are you looking for a more self-reliant lifestyle for you and your family?  We can help you achieve your dreams.  These smaller breeds of livestock are ideal for both first-time homesteaders and experienced livestock keepers.  They cost much less to feed and house, are easier to  handle, have less impact on the land, yet are still very productive and hardy.  They keep our freezer stocked with meat and our refrigerator stocked with milk,  and they put the fun in functional.

Give the smaller breeds of livestock a try,
they may just surprise you!

About Us
Davis farms was established in 1990 by Mike and Debbie Davis.  Since that time, we have worked steadily toward becoming more and more self-reliant.  To that end, we have tried several different breeds of livestock.  We began raising Dexters in 1999 and have found them to be ideal for our small 65 acre homestead.  They are easy on the pastures, require much less feed and space than the larger breeds and provide plenty of beef and milk for us.
We just started our Nigerian Dwarf herd in 2006 and are very excited about them.  What more can you say about a dairy animal the size of meduim sized dog, that can easily be housed in a small shed (or even a large dog house), that requires very little hay and/or pasture and will give 3 to 4 pounds of milk a day?  We are anxious to work more with this breed and will have updates of our experiences with them on the Nigerian pages of this site, as we do with the Dexters on the Dexter pages.
You, too, can be more self-reliant and it's not as difficult as you might think.  The small and productive Dexters and Nigerians can make it even easier and more fun than you ever thought possible.
